Here is an interesting blog on CSR provoked by O's speech,  Lawyers love to complicate and confuse, but in the short and long run a corporation's first and paramount role is to stay in business.  To do that usually it has to grow and be profitable.  There are times when the corporation may find it helpful to be involved in CSR in order to stay in business and/or be profitable, otherwise it's a meaningless concept.
