VIRGINIA POSTREL:  The Power of Glamour  This podcast conversation with Virginia Postrel is one of several other segments in Ed Driscoll's blog on this date.  Two of them are videos on the state of Detroit today, and the perfectly obvious reasons for this collapse of one of the country's once most dynamic and prosperous cities 50-60 years ago.  The bottom line of the two videos describing Detroit today is when we stray from free market capitalism, personal responsibility and initiative, we end up with nothing.  Detroit, after 50 years of one party rule and social engineering is officially and realistically a basket case.  The government loots what's left of the private citizens wealth, appeals (and gets) bailout from the state and federal governments to continue the looting and in the end you have a city that has lost 2/3 of its population, all of its wealth, and has driven off all of its productive elements.  Welcome to socialism and Barak Obama's world should he have his way.

OUR PATHETIC PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES:  If this presidency doesn't kill Affirmative Action, nothing will  What remains amazing to many is how Obama fooled anyone other than the usual suspects, from the get go.

LIES: They tend to compound themselves  It has been said that it's much safer to tell the truth than to lie because it's easy to remember the truth but impossible to remember lies.  There's a lot of truth in that statement!

WHY THE TRUTH MATTERS:  The Benghazi lies by the administration  Someone needs to keep the facts surrounding the Benghazi murders alive.  All of the lies told by Hillary, Obama et. al., were designed to paper over the actual facts until at least after the election of 2012, and they were successful. This disgrace must be kept alive until someone (Hillary, principally), is held accountable.  The lies presented on this matter were of a pattern to those offered about healthcare.  The entire campaign run by the democrats was based on lies rendering the results of the election null and void, at least in a real sense.  Of course since we have an immoral media to cover for the lies of all democrats, only a few souls knew of this fraud and for that matter only a few still know of it.  How do those who are complicit in all this deception manage to live with themselves?

• Police and the justice system are not biased against minorities.

Crime Rates

• Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery.
• When blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly three times more likely than non-blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife.
• Hispanics commit violent crimes at roughly three times the white rate, and Asians commit violent crimes at about one quarter the white rate.
• The single best indicator of violent crime levels in an area is the percentage of the population that is black and Hispanic.

Interracial Crime

• Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving blacks and whites, blacks commit 85 percent and whites commit 15 percent.
• Blacks commit more violent crime against whites than against blacks. Forty-five percent of their victims are white, 43 percent are black, and 10 percent are Hispanic. When whites commit violent crime, only three percent of their victims are black.
• Blacks are an estimated 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against a white than vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit robbery.
• Blacks are 2.25 times more likely to commit officially-designated hate crimes against whites than vice versa.

Gangs

• Only 10 percent of youth gang members are white.
• Hispanics are 19 times more likely than whites to be members of youth gangs. Blacks are 15 times more likely, and Asians are nine times more likely.

Incarceration

• Between 1980 and 2003 the US incarceration rate more than tripled, from 139 to 482 per 100,000, and the number of prisoners increased from 320,000 to 1.39 million.
• Blacks are seven times more likely to be in prison than whites. Hispanics are three times more likely.

UNFORTUNATELY THIS IS HAPPENING: Sowell on race  There may be no one in the U.S. more qualified, rational and objective to speak out on this hugely dangerous development.  John Derbyshire was fired from National Review, a conservative opinion journal,  for speaking out on this subject.  It is considered a taboo subject by media of all stripes, and yet to any objective eye it is a festering problem fueled by black politicians and race hustlers and even more importantly, by liberal media outlets across the board.  As long as 70% of black newborns are out of wedlock, as long as the liberal governing class and media avoid addressing this issue, it all continue to get worse and result in a violin eruption sooner than later.  Mark this one down as a given. In this book by Colin Flaherty discussed in the following article,  incidents around the country never reported in liberal media are brought to light.

Updated Edition of White Girl Bleed a Lot

Good thing we have YouTube. Without it, Colin Flaherty would have had a hard time documenting the ongoing epidemic of black mob violence that he describes in his excellent White Girl Bleed a Lot. The updated second edition includes QR codes throughout; scan them with your phone or tabletand they take you straight to videos that tell you what the liberal media establishment won’t: the mayhem has gotten completely out of hand.

The violence is widespread and frequent, yet Flaherty’s job wasn’t easy, because media reports will usually refuse to mention race when it does not support the liberal narrative of white oppressors and saintly blacks. That’s where video comes in. Without it, readers might not believe him when he states,

In hundreds of episodes across the country since 2010, groups of black people are roaming the streets of America, intimidating, stalking, vandalizing, stealing, shooting, stabbing, raping, and killing.

We are told the crime rate is down. But to some extent this is due to the police refusing to acknowledge that crimes took place, which is particularly likely to happen when the crimes make the liberal establishment uncomfortable — as with black mob violence.

The media doesn’t want to talk about it. Those who bring up the issue are denounced as racist. If backed into a corner, establishment journalists will deny the epidemic is real, then offer excuses for it in the next breath. When reporting can’t be avoided, the size of mobs is downplayed by counting only those who inflict the violence, not the dozens or hundreds more who egg them on. Due to the lack of coverage, most people don’t even know the problem exists — which sets them up to become victims.

Sometimes the violence is simply random mayhem. But it often targets whites, who risk their lives by merely walking down the street — and not just in places like Chicago and Philadelphia, but in smaller towns like Des Moines and Peoria.

Flaherty knows that writing about race in this country can be treacherous, so he sticks to simple rules:

[N]o stereotypes, no generalizations, no explanations, and no apologies. Also, no causes or solutions. Just the facts.

That is, he gives us what the establishment media won’t.

One person who does not avoid explanations is James Harris of 620 WTMJ in Milwaukee, site of some of the most outlandish chaos. He calls the violence

“the perfect storm of entitlement, dependency, political correctness, and this whole idea of white guilt where we’re afraid to identify who it is that’s attacking and the reasons why they are doing it…”

Occasionally these reasons are explicitly stated, as in the case of Nkosi Thandiwe, who killed Brittney Watts and wounded two other women in Midtown Atlanta in 2011. He testified that he had been taught to hate whites in his history classes at the University of West Georgia, confirming to an assistant district attorney that he was “trying to spread the message of making white people the enemy.”

But rather than try to read minds, Flaherty leaves it up to us to figure out what is driving thisalarming phenomenon, which we can only do when we have the facts the authorities have been keeping from us.

If you want to know what is really going on out there, do not fail to read this book.

RIDICULOUS LATIMES ARTICLE:  This is what passes as first page stuff at LATimes these days  This pathetic bit of reportage appeared on the first page of the Sunday Times today.  "Pathetic" because the reporter provided no context for the quotes assailing the dilemma city workers now confronting the city workers and largely black residents of this failed town.  It took forty plus years for the unions and blacks to destroy Detroit and make no mistake there is no way this city makes a comeback with its current demographics and dependency attitude.  In 1967 blacks rioted for days and touched off the migration of the white executive population to the suburbs taking with them their civic pride, their taxes and their competency.  What was left was the underclass who could find no employment other than for government.  Once they ran through the the shrinking tax revenues these people began to borrow and finesse the city's finances which, of course, also ran it course resulting in bankruptcy.  They are now blaming whitey and everyone but themselves.  What we have here is a perfect laboratory experiment in socialism, and as Margaret Thatcher once put it, " Socialists eventually fails when they run out of other people's money".
